Crypto card for Gemini: pay Google AI Pro and the Gemini API
Google takes cards, not crypto, so the route is a virtual ExCards Visa or Mastercard that you top up with any crypto. Google AI Pro and Ultra are bought through Google One, and for a monthly plan Visa E-commerce usually fits. The Gemini API is a different story: it runs on Google Cloud billing, which is stricter about prepaid and virtual cards.
Which card fits Gemini
All three cards pay online, pass 3D Secure and work with Apple Pay and Google Pay. For Gemini the difference is in the fee on each payment and on each top-up.
| Visa Universe | Visa E-commerce | Mastercard Business | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Card price (one-time, at issuance) | 29 USDT | 35 USDT | 50 USDT |
| Top-up fee | 2% | 3.5% | 3.5% |
| Fee per payment (authorization) | $0.50 flat | Free from $1, plus $0.03 per 3D Secure check | $0.50 flat, 3D Secure included |
| Online payments and 3D Secure | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Apple Pay and Google Pay | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Limit per payment | $1,000,000 | $20,000 | $250,000 |
Google AI Pro or Ultra: Visa E-commerce. A monthly charge above $1 costs only the 3D Secure check, and the card has no daily or monthly cap.
Gemini API credits: if you decide to try, Visa Universe. Credits are bought in packs from $5 up to $5,000, and on larger packs the lower top-up fee (2% against 3.5%) matters more than the flat $0.50 per payment. Read the Google Cloud rules below first.
A company paying for Google Cloud as well: Mastercard Business, if you also want offline payments and higher limits for other company spending.
None of this guarantees that a payment is approved. That decision belongs to Google's payment checks and card processing.
What Google's help center says
We read Google's official help pages on 14.10.2026. We have not made test payments to Google, so below is what Google states, not our experience.
- Plans are sold through Google One. You subscribe to a Google AI plan through Google One; in the Gemini app it is under Settings & help, View Subscriptions, and at checkout you select or add a form of payment. Source: Manage your Google AI plan from Gemini Apps, checked 14.10.2026.
- Personal account and supported country. Google AI Pro needs a personal Google Account and is available in the countries on Google's list. Members who got Google One through a third-party partner or Pixel Pass cannot sign up for it directly. Source: Get a Google AI Pro membership, checked 14.10.2026.
- The first payment method is a card. Google saves payment details in your payments profile, and the first payment method you add must be a credit or debit card. You can have one personal payments profile for the country you live in. Source: Manage your Google payment info, checked 14.10.2026.
- Google One payments go through Google Play. The card for the membership is changed in Google Play under My subscriptions, Google One. Google Play's own card rules, including its line on virtual credit cards, are on our Google Play page. Source: Change your card & fix payment issues, checked 14.10.2026.
- The Gemini API is prepaid Cloud billing. To leave the free tier you link a billing account and prepay at least $5 of credits; one purchase is capped at $5,000, credits expire after 12 months, and at a zero balance all API keys on that billing account stop working. Source: Gemini API billing, checked 14.10.2026.
- Google Cloud does not accept prepaid cards. Its list of unaccepted methods includes prepaid cards and debit cards that require two-factor authentication. The signup guide adds that prepaid cards, virtual cards and some unverified business cards may not be accepted. Sources: Add, remove, or update a payment method and Troubleshoot Google Cloud signup issues, checked 14.10.2026.
Put plainly: for the Google AI Pro subscription, Google's pages do not exclude a card like ours outright. For the Gemini API, Google's own rules leave a real chance that a virtual card topped up in advance will be refused. ExCards confirms payments with 3D Secure 2, and we do not know how Google classifies our cards.
How to pay for Gemini, step by step
- Issue the card. Sign up at app.excards.io, pass the light passport check and choose a card. The card price is paid once, at issuance. The virtual card is ready within 10 minutes after verification.
- Top up with any crypto. This is a separate step after the card is issued: send USDT, BTC, ETH or another supported coin to your deposit address. The first top-up is at least 10 USDT, and the top-up fee of your card is taken from each top-up. Put on the card a little more than the plan or the credit pack you are buying.
- Add the card to Google. For a plan: in Gemini open Settings & help, View Subscriptions, pick the plan and add the card when asked, or do it at payments.google.com, Payment methods. For the API: in Google AI Studio open Billing, choose Set up billing, add the card and buy credits. Enter the billing address you actually live at.
- Confirm the payment. If Google asks you to verify the card or a 3D Secure window opens, complete it right away. After that, renewals and auto-reloads charge the same card while there is money on it.
If you subscribe on an iPhone, the payment goes through your Apple ID instead; that route is on our App Store page.
Common declines and what to do
| What you see | Likely reason | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Card declined when you subscribe | Balance below the charge: on Visa Universe and Mastercard Business each payment also costs $0.50 | Top up with a margin and try once more |
| Google asks to verify the card | Google checks new payment methods | Pick a verification option and enter the code Google shows |
| Address or country error | The address does not match the payments profile, or the country is not on the Google AI Pro list | Enter your real address and check supported countries |
| Card refused in Google AI Studio billing | Google Cloud does not accept prepaid cards and may refuse virtual ones | Stop retrying; the API may simply not take this card |
| Gemini API returns 402 Payment Required | The prepaid credit balance is at zero | Buy credits or set up auto-reload with money on the card |
| Google AI Pro renewal failed | Less money on the card than the plan | Top up and update the payment in Google One |
Do not press "pay" over and over. On Visa E-commerce a $0.80 surcharge applies if more than 10% of the card's payments are declined. If Google charges in a currency other than USD, the issuer converts at its rate, which can include a markup of up to 2%. Where cards are available at all is on the geo restrictions page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay for Gemini with a crypto card?
Google charges a card or another saved payment method, not a crypto wallet, so you top up an ExCards card with crypto and pay Google with the card. Google AI Pro and Ultra are bought through Google One, and your first saved payment method has to be a credit or debit card. Whether a particular payment goes through is decided by Google, so no card can promise it.
Which ExCards card fits Google AI Pro?
For a monthly plan, Visa E-commerce usually fits best: payments from $1 carry no authorization fee, only $0.03 for a 3D Secure check, and the card has no daily or monthly cap.
Will a virtual card work for the Gemini API?
It may not. The Gemini API is billed through a Google Cloud billing account. Google Cloud says prepaid cards are not accepted and that prepaid and virtual cards may not be accepted at signup. How Google classifies an ExCards card we do not know, so treat the API as the less predictable route.
How much do I need to start paying for the Gemini API?
According to Google, moving a project to the paid tier means linking a billing account and prepaying at least $5 of credits. One purchase can be up to $5,000, and unused credits expire after 12 months. When the credit balance reaches zero, API keys on that billing account stop working until you add credits.
Where do I change the card for Google AI Pro?
Google One help says to open Google One, Settings, Change payment method, then in Google Play go to My subscriptions, find Google One and update the primary payment method. Saved cards are also managed at payments.google.com.
Is identity verification needed to get the card?
Yes. KYC is required for every ExCards card: a light passport check by the card issuer partner plus sanctions screening. The virtual card is issued within 10 minutes after verification is approved.
