Crypto card for Claude: pay Claude Pro and the Anthropic API
Claude takes cards, not crypto, so the route is a virtual ExCards Visa or Mastercard that you top up with any crypto. For a Pro or Max plan, Visa E-commerce usually fits: payments from $1 carry no authorization fee. Add the card in Settings, Billing on claude.ai, or in the Console for API credits, and confirm 3D Secure when asked.
Which card fits Claude
All three cards pay online, pass 3D Secure and work with Apple Pay and Google Pay. For Claude the difference is in the fee on each payment and on each top-up.
| Visa Universe | Visa E-commerce | Mastercard Business | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Card price (one-time, at issuance) | 29 USDT | 35 USDT | 50 USDT |
| Top-up fee | 2% | 3.5% | 3.5% |
| Fee per payment (authorization) | $0.50 flat | Free from $1, plus $0.03 per 3D Secure check | $0.50 flat, 3D Secure included |
| Online payments and 3D Secure | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Apple Pay and Google Pay | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Limit per payment | $1,000,000 | $20,000 | $250,000 |
A Pro or Max plan: Visa E-commerce. A monthly charge above $1 costs only the 3D Secure check, and the card has no daily or monthly cap.
Large API credit purchases: Visa Universe. On a few hundred dollars of credits a month, the lower top-up fee (2% against 3.5%) outweighs the flat $0.50 per payment.
A company account with several payers: Mastercard Business, if you also want offline payments and higher limits for other company spending.
None of this guarantees that a payment is approved. That decision belongs to Anthropic's payment checks and card processing.
What Anthropic's help center says
We read Anthropic's official help pages on 10.10.2026. We have not made test payments to Claude, so below is what Anthropic states, not our experience.
- Cards only. For subscriptions bought on the web, Anthropic accepts credit or debit cards; PayPal, Venmo and other third-party processors are not accepted. Prepaid cards are not mentioned either way. An ExCards card spends the balance you topped up in advance. Source: Paid plan billing FAQs and Why was my card declined, checked 10.10.2026.
- Billing location. The billing address and origin country of the payment method must be in a supported location, and the address must match what the card issuer has on file. Source: Why was my card declined, checked 10.10.2026.
- Where you are matters too. Paid plans are only available to users physically located in a supported country, with a phone number from one. The list is on Anthropic's supported countries page, checked 10.10.2026.
- 3D Secure. A transaction may require 3D Secure, and an unfinished check is listed as a decline reason. Source: Why was my card declined, checked 10.10.2026.
- API is prepaid credits. API usage is paid with credits bought in advance, with optional auto-reload when the balance drops below a threshold you set. The card is managed in the Console under Settings, Billing. Source: How do I pay for my API usage, checked 10.10.2026.
- A failed renewal can downgrade the account to the free plan. Source: Paid plan billing FAQs, checked 10.10.2026.
How to pay for Claude, step by step
- Issue the card. Sign up at app.excards.io, pass the light passport check and choose a card. The card price is paid once, at issuance. The virtual card is ready within 10 minutes after verification.
- Top up with any crypto. This is a separate step after the card is issued: send USDT, BTC, ETH or another supported coin to your deposit address. The first top-up is at least 10 USDT, and the top-up fee of your card is taken from each top-up. Put on the card a little more than the plan or the credit pack you are buying.
- Add the card to Claude. For a plan: on claude.ai click your name in the lower left, open Settings, then Billing, choose Upgrade plan or Update next to the payment method, and enter the card number, expiry date and CVC. For the API: in the Console open Settings, Billing and add the card there (Admin or Billing role needed). Enter the billing address you actually live at.
- Confirm the payment. If a 3D Secure window opens, complete it right away. After that, renewals and auto-reloads charge the same card while there is money on it.
Common declines and what to do
| What you see | Likely reason | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Card declined on the first payment | Balance below the charge: on Visa Universe and Mastercard Business each payment also costs $0.50 | Top up with a margin and try once more |
| Payment stuck, then declined | The 3D Secure check was not finished or timed out | Retry and complete the confirmation without closing the window |
| Declined with a billing address error | The address or country does not match, or the country is not on Anthropic's supported list | Enter your real address and check the supported countries |
| The card is refused whatever you do | Anthropic's checks did not accept this card | Stop retrying, try another of the three cards or write to @excards_bot |
| API auto-reload fails at night | Balance below the reload amount, or an unanswered 3D Secure check | Keep more than one reload on the card |
| A large credit purchase is declined | Above the per-payment limit: $20,000 on Visa E-commerce | Pay with Visa Universe or Mastercard Business |
Do not press "pay" over and over. On Visa E-commerce a $0.80 surcharge applies if more than 10% of the card's payments are declined. If the merchant charges in a currency other than USD, the issuer converts at its rate, which can include a markup of up to 2%. Where cards are available at all is on the geo restrictions page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay for Claude with a crypto card?
Anthropic charges a card, not a crypto wallet, so you top up an ExCards card with crypto and pay Claude with the card. Anthropic's help center lists credit and debit cards as accepted. Whether a particular payment goes through is decided by Anthropic's payment checks and card processing, so no card can promise it.
Which ExCards card is best for Claude Pro?
For a monthly plan, Visa E-commerce usually fits best: payments from $1 carry no authorization fee, only $0.03 for a 3D Secure check, and the card has no daily or monthly cap. Visa Universe has the lowest top-up fee, 2%, which matters more for large API credit purchases.
Does Claude require 3D Secure?
Anthropic says a transaction may require 3D Secure verification and that an incomplete check is one of the reasons a card is declined. All ExCards authorizations go through 3D Secure 2, so keep the confirmation window open and finish it on the first attempt.
Why does auto-reload of API credits fail when the first payment worked?
Auto-reload buys credits automatically when the balance drops below your threshold, and every reload is a new card payment. If the card balance is lower than the reload amount, or a 3D Secure check appears while you are away, the payment fails. Keep more on the card than one reload.
What happens if my Claude subscription payment fails?
According to Anthropic's billing FAQ, if the payment method fails the account may be downgraded to the free plan. Top up the card, then update or retry the payment in Settings, Billing.
Is identity verification needed to get the card?
Yes. KYC is required for every ExCards card: a light passport check by the card issuer partner plus sanctions screening. The virtual card is issued within 10 minutes after verification is approved.
