Crypto card for Spotify and Netflix: pay music and streaming plans
Spotify and Netflix charge a card every month, not a crypto wallet. A virtual ExCards Visa or Mastercard topped up with any crypto covers that. For one or two plans, Visa E-commerce usually fits: payments from $1 carry no authorization fee. Add the card under Payment methods on Spotify or Manage payment method on Netflix, and confirm 3D Secure.
Which card fits Spotify and Netflix
A music or streaming plan is a small charge that repeats every month. What you pay on top of it is the fee on each payment and on each top-up, so that is what the table compares.
| Visa Universe | Visa E-commerce | Mastercard Business | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Card price (one-time, at issuance) | 29 USDT | 35 USDT | 50 USDT |
| Top-up fee | 2% | 3.5% | 3.5% |
| Fee per payment (authorization) | $0.50 flat | Free from $1, plus $0.03 per 3D Secure check | $0.50 flat, 3D Secure included |
| Small check when you add the card (under $1) | $0.50 | $0.10 | $0.50 |
| Online payments and 3D Secure | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Apple Pay and Google Pay | Yes | Yes | Yes |
One or two subscriptions: Visa E-commerce. A monthly charge above $1 costs only the $0.03 3D Secure check, while Visa Universe adds $0.50 to every renewal.
You already have Visa Universe for other spending: keep it. Its top-up fee is the lowest, 2%, and a separate card for one plan rarely pays off.
A family or team paying from one balance: Mastercard Business, if you also need offline payments and higher limits for other spending.
None of this guarantees that a payment is approved. Spotify, Netflix and card processing make that decision on each charge.
What Spotify's and Netflix's help centers say
We read the official help pages of both services on 10.10.2026. We have not made test payments to Spotify or Netflix, so below is what the services state, not our experience.
Spotify
- Methods depend on the country. Spotify offers different payment methods depending on the country or region you are in; the full list shows up after you pick a plan on spotify.com/premium. Source: Accepted payment methods, checked 10.10.2026.
- Card country must match the account. Among the reasons for a failed payment, Spotify lists a card that is not registered in the same country as your Spotify account, and a card not enabled for foreign, secure online and recurring purchases. Source: Failed payment help, checked 10.10.2026.
- A small check when you add a card. Spotify may place a small authorization charge to confirm the card is valid; it is a temporary hold that disappears. Source: How to change your payment details, checked 10.10.2026.
- A failed renewal is retried. If a monthly payment fails, Premium is not cut off at once: Spotify tries to take the payment again over the next few days. Source: Failed payment help, checked 10.10.2026.
Netflix
- Visa and Mastercard, including prepaid. Netflix accepts credit and debit cards with Visa, Mastercard and American Express logos, and prepaid cards with the same logos. The card must be enabled for recurring e-commerce transactions, and you may need to allow international transactions. Source: How to pay for Netflix, checked 10.10.2026.
- Virtual cards only in some markets. Netflix accepts virtual cards in select markets and says that if a virtual card is declined, you should choose a different payment method. An ExCards card is virtual, so this is the main risk on Netflix. Source: How to pay for Netflix, checked 10.10.2026.
- Payment methods vary by country. The list in the help center changes with the country selected. Source: How to pay for Netflix, checked 10.10.2026.
- If a payment fails, the account is put on hold. Netflix suggests checking funds, recurring and e-commerce support, then updating the card on the Manage payment method page or trying a different payment option. Source: Your account is on hold because of a problem with your last payment, checked 10.10.2026.
How to pay for Spotify or Netflix, step by step
- Issue the card. Sign up at app.excards.io, pass the light passport check and choose a card. The card price is paid once, at issuance. The virtual card is ready within 10 minutes after verification.
- Top up with any crypto. This is a separate step after the card is issued: send USDT, BTC, ETH or another supported coin to your deposit address. The first top-up is at least 10 USDT, and the top-up fee of your card is taken from each top-up. Keep at least two or three months of the plan on the card so renewals do not fail.
- Add the card to the service. Spotify: sign in to your account page on the web, open Payment methods, choose Add (or Change for the current card) and confirm. Netflix: open your account, go to Manage payment method, choose Update or Change payment method and enter the card number, expiry date and CVC. Enter the address you actually live at.
- Confirm the payment. If a 3D Secure window opens, complete it right away. After that, the monthly charge goes to the same card while there is money on it.
Common declines and what to do
| What you see | Likely reason | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Card refused when you add it | Too little on the balance for the small check: on Visa Universe and Mastercard Business it also costs $0.50 | Top up with a margin and add the card once more |
| Netflix declines the card right away | Netflix accepts virtual cards only in some markets | Do not retry many times; choose another payment method Netflix offers in your country |
| Spotify says the payment failed | The card's country does not match the country of your Spotify account | Check with @excards_bot where your card is issued and compare with the account country |
| Payment stuck, then declined | The 3D Secure check was not finished or timed out | Retry and complete the confirmation without closing the window |
| Renewal failed after months of normal charges | The balance ran out before the billing date | Top up; Spotify retries over a few days, on Netflix retry the payment in your account |
| Price on the statement differs from the plan | The plan is billed in a currency other than USD and converted | Expect a conversion markup of up to 2% and keep a small margin |
Do not press "pay" over and over. On Visa E-commerce a $0.80 surcharge applies if more than 10% of the card's payments are declined. If the service charges in a currency other than USD, the issuer converts at its rate, which can include a markup of up to 2%. Where cards are available at all is on the geo restrictions page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay for Spotify or Netflix with crypto?
Not directly. Both services charge a card or another local payment method, not a crypto wallet. You top up an ExCards card with crypto and pay the subscription with the card. Whether a particular payment goes through is decided by the service and card processing, so no card can promise it.
Does Netflix accept virtual cards?
Netflix says it accepts virtual cards in select markets, and that if a virtual card is declined you should choose a different payment method. Prepaid cards with Visa or Mastercard logos are accepted, but the card must support recurring e-commerce payments.
Why does Spotify decline a card that works elsewhere?
Spotify lists several reasons: not enough funds, a card registered in a different country than your Spotify account, or a card not enabled for foreign, secure online and recurring purchases. The country match is the one to check first.
Which ExCards card is best for a streaming subscription?
Usually Visa E-commerce: payments from $1 carry no authorization fee, only $0.03 for a 3D Secure check. If you already hold Visa Universe, its 2% top-up fee is the lowest, but each payment costs $0.50.
What happens if a renewal fails?
On Spotify, Premium is not cut off at once: Spotify tries the payment again over the next few days. On Netflix, the account is put on hold until you update the card or retry the payment. In both cases, top up the card first.
Is identity verification needed to get the card?
Yes. KYC is required for every ExCards card: a light passport check by the card issuer partner plus sanctions screening. The virtual card is issued within 10 minutes after verification is approved.
