Pay for Amazon with crypto: a virtual card for Amazon.com orders
Amazon's help pages describe paying with cards and Amazon balance, not a crypto wallet. The route is a virtual ExCards Visa or Mastercard that you top up with any crypto. For everyday orders Visa E-commerce usually fits: payments from $1 carry no authorization fee. Amazon accepts prepaid cards for most purchases, with limits, so no card is guaranteed to pass.
Which card fits Amazon
All three cards pay online, pass 3D Secure and work with Apple Pay and Google Pay. For Amazon the difference is what each order and each top-up costs you.
| Visa Universe | Visa E-commerce | Mastercard Business | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Card price (one-time, at issuance) | 29 USDT | 35 USDT | 50 USDT |
| Top-up fee | 2% | 3.5% | 3.5% |
| Fee per payment (authorization) | $0.50 flat | Free from $1, plus $0.03 per 3D Secure check | $0.50 flat, 3D Secure included |
| Online payments and 3D Secure | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Apple Pay and Google Pay | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Limit per payment | $1,000,000 | $20,000 | $250,000 |
Everyday orders and Prime: Visa E-commerce. An order above $1 costs only the 3D Secure check, and the card has no daily or monthly cap, so several orders a day are not a problem.
One expensive purchase, like a laptop: Visa Universe. On a large order the lower top-up fee (2% against 3.5%) saves more than the flat $0.50 per payment costs.
Buying for a company: Mastercard Business, if the same card also pays for offline purchases and other company spending.
None of this guarantees that a payment is approved. That decision belongs to Amazon's checks and card processing.
What Amazon's help pages say
We read Amazon.com Customer Service pages on 18.10.2026. We have not placed test orders, so below is what Amazon states, not our experience. Local Amazon stores in other countries have their own help pages and may set other rules.
- Prepaid cards work for most purchases. Amazon.com lets you use prepaid cards for most purchases, but with restrictions: prepaid Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards can't be combined with credit cards on a single order, and some issuers require the card to be registered first. An ExCards card spends a balance you topped up in advance; how Amazon classifies it, we don't know. Source: Restrictions on Prepaid Cards, checked 18.10.2026.
- Amazon doesn't learn why a card was declined. The card issuer can't tell Amazon the reason. Amazon suggests checking the card number, expiry date, billing address and phone number in Your Account, and retrying from Your Orders with the same or another card. Source: Resolve a Declined Payment, checked 18.10.2026.
- Paying in your own currency has conditions. Amazon Currency Converter needs a Visa, Mastercard or American Express card in a supported currency and does not cover subscriptions or digital products, except Kindle eBooks. Source: Amazon Currency Converter Requirements, checked 18.10.2026.
- Gift cards are a separate path with strict rules. Amazon.com Gift Cards must not be bought from unauthorized third parties, can't be sold or exchanged for cash or another prepaid instrument, and can't pay for some items, such as other gift cards. Source: About Amazon.com Gift Card Restrictions and Prohibited Activities, checked 18.10.2026.
In public Reddit threads people complain that a card issued in another country stopped working on Amazon, or that a prepaid card was declined. Amazon may ask for another payment method, and a card from a different country than your account can be refused. Treat a first small order as a test.
Card or gift card: two ways to spend crypto on Amazon
A card topped up with crypto. You pay Amazon directly, like with any other card: any item that accepts cards, Prime and other renewals, refunds back to the card. The costs are the card price, paid once, and the top-up fee of your card.
An Amazon.com Gift Card bought for crypto. Some shops sell Amazon gift cards for crypto. Amazon's rules say not to buy gift cards from unauthorized third parties, because it cannot guarantee they are legitimate, and a balance can be blocked if the rules are broken. Gift card balance also can't pay for every item. If you go this way, check that the seller is an authorized one before paying.
How to pay on Amazon, step by step
- Issue the card. Sign up at app.excards.io, pass the light passport check and choose a card. The card price is paid once, at issuance. The virtual card is ready within 10 minutes after verification.
- Top up with any crypto. This is a separate step after the card is issued: send USDT, BTC, ETH or another supported coin to your deposit address. The first top-up is at least 10 USDT, and the top-up fee of your card is taken from each top-up. Put on the card a little more than the order total with shipping and tax.
- Add the card to Amazon. In Your Account open the payment settings (Add or edit payment methods), enter the card number, expiry date and the name on the card, and give the billing address you actually live at.
- Place the order and confirm. Choose the card at checkout. If a 3D Secure window opens, complete it right away. If the order is declined, retry once from Your Orders after checking the details.
Common declines and what to do
| What you see | Likely reason | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Order declined right away | Balance below the total: shipping and tax are added, and on Visa Universe and Mastercard Business each payment also costs $0.50 | Top up with a margin and use Retry Payment Method in Your Orders |
| Declined after you entered the card | Billing address or phone number doesn't match what the card has on file | Correct the details in Your Account and retry |
| Can't pay with the card and a credit card together | Amazon doesn't combine prepaid cards with credit cards on one order | Pay the whole order with one card |
| The card worked before, now it is refused | Amazon's checks or the card processing stopped accepting it | Stop retrying, try another of the three cards or write to @excards_bot |
| Payment stuck, then declined | The 3D Secure check was not finished or timed out | Retry and complete the confirmation without closing the window |
| Expensive item is declined | Above the per-payment limit: $20,000 on Visa E-commerce | Pay with Visa Universe or Mastercard Business |
Do not press "place order" over and over. On Visa E-commerce a $0.80 surcharge applies if more than 10% of the card's payments are declined. If a local Amazon store charges in a currency other than USD, the card issuer converts at its rate, which can include a markup of up to 2%. Where cards are available at all is on the geo restrictions page, and the payment calculator shows what an order costs on each card.
Frequently asked questions
Can you pay Amazon with crypto?
Not from a crypto wallet: the Amazon help pages we read describe paying with cards and Amazon balance. You top up an ExCards card with crypto and pay Amazon with the card. Whether a particular order goes through is decided by Amazon's checks and card processing, so no card can promise it.
Can I use a virtual card on Amazon?
A virtual card is entered like any other card: number, expiry date and name, plus your billing address. Amazon's help says prepaid cards work for most purchases, with restrictions, such as not combining them with a credit card on one order.
Why was my prepaid card declined on Amazon?
Most often the balance is below the order total with shipping and tax, or the billing address and phone number don't match. Amazon says the card issuer can't tell it the reason, so check the details, top up with a margin and retry once from Your Orders.
Which ExCards card is best for Amazon?
For regular orders Visa E-commerce usually fits: payments from $1 carry no authorization fee, only $0.03 for a 3D Secure check, and there is no daily or monthly cap. For one large purchase Visa Universe is cheaper because of its 2% top-up fee.
Can I exchange an Amazon gift card for crypto?
Amazon's rules forbid selling or exchanging an Amazon.com Gift Card for cash or for another prepaid payment instrument, and breaking them can get the balance blocked. A gift card balance is meant to be spent on Amazon.
Is identity verification needed to get the card?
Yes. KYC is required for every ExCards card: a light passport check by the card issuer partner plus sanctions screening. The virtual card is issued within 10 minutes after verification is approved.
